"I am very pleased that Seaspan and the ILWU have reached a negotiated agreement without interruption to services," said Minister Raitt. "Strong labour management relations benefit our country's economic prosperity and the economic security of Canadians."
ILWU Local 400, Marine Division, represents approximately 180 employees working on two boats owned and operated by Seaspan Marine Corporation, including deckhands, cooks and oilers. The parties reached a new agreement with the assistance of the Labour Program's Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. The previous collective agreement expired on September 30, 2010.
The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service provides dispute resolution and dispute prevention assistance to trade unions and employers under the jurisdiction of the Canada Labour Code.
